7 Sunnah Before & After Friday Shalat That You Can Do
7 Sunnah Before & After Friday Shalat That You Can Do | Friday is a holy day for Muslims. On this day it is forbidden for us to fast & as Muslims it is obligatory for a Muslim man to perform Friday prayers in the mosque. Before performing and after performing Friday prayers, there are actually several sunnahs that we can do to increase our reward.
What are these sunnahs? Here are some sunnahs that riz summarized from various sources.
Wearing Non Alcoholic Perfume & The Best Clothes
Before going to the mosque we should wear the best clothes we have and of course cover the genitals and don't forget to wear perfume too. But remember to wear non-alcoholic perfumes to get rid of our worries due to differences of opinion between some scholars regarding alcoholic perfumes, some forbid some forbid their use. The Prophet Muhammad himself always gave an example of wearing special clothes on Fridays and ordered his companions to do it too. This is also based on the Hadith from the narrators of Ibn Hibban & Al Hakim below :
Whoever takes a bath on Friday and puts on the best clothes he has, puts on perfume if any, then goes to perform the Friday shalat and there he does not step over the shoulders of a human then he performs the sunnah shalat, then when the priest comes he stays silent until After the Friday shalat, the act will erase his sins between that Friday and the previous Friday.
Trim Nails & Shave Mustache
It's good before we perform Friday prayers we clean ourselves by bathing, cutting nails and shaving the mustache. This is so that our appearance is neat and clean and to do the sunnah as described in the hadith narrated by AL Haibagi & At Thabrani below :
"The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said : Cut his nails and shave his mustache on Friday before he went to Friday shalat.
Reading Surah Al-Kahfi
Many narrations mention reading the letter of the Qur'an on Friday or Friday night as the main practice but the most powerful is Surah Al-Kahf. This is very different compared to what exists in Indonesian society who are used to reading Yasin's letters on Fridays. This is as explained in the history of Abu Said and based on the hadith narrated by Al Hakim :
The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: Whoever reads Surah Al-Kahf on Friday and then the light shines on him between 2 Fridays.
Increase Sholawat On the Prophet
Sholawat is the simplest form of love for the great prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam. Prayer is also a sunnah that we can do on Friday, here is a hadith that explains this :
So multiply (sholawat) to me on this day (Friday), verily your prayers will be shown to me" (From the Hadith of Abu Dawud's History Number 1047: Sahih).
Hurrying to the Mosque
The Messenger of Allah said:
On Friday at every door of the mosque there are several angels who record one by one the people who are present for Friday prayers according to the quality of their position. When the imam comes to or goes up the pulpit then the angels then close the note sheet and they get ready to listen to the sermon. The example of the person who arrives earlier is like the person who sacrifices a fat camel, the person who comes next is like the one who sacrifices a cow, and the person who comes next is like the one who sacrifices a goat, and the person who comes next is like the one who gives chicken, and the person who comes next. (the last group) is like a person who gives charity an egg." (Hadith History Bukhari: 929 & Muslim: 850).
Based on the hadith above, it is recommended to hurry to the mosque on Friday & we should come early to get the reward and be able to listen to the sermon well from beginning to end.
Sunnah Shalat Before the Imam Goes Up the Pulpit
Maybe there are some of us who on Friday in our mosques perform sunnah shalat when the imam is delivering the sermon. This is a wrong thing because when the imam is delivering the sermon, we should sit and listen quietly to the sermon until it is finished.
Whoever takes a bath and then comes for Friday shalat, then he prays as much as he can & he is silent listening to the sermon until it is finished, after that he prays with the imam then his sins are forgiven from this Friday until the next Friday plus 3 days. (Hadith of Muslim History). If you want to do the sunnah shalat, it should be done when the imam is not delivering the sermon or after the Friday shalat.
Sunnah Prayers After Friday Prayers
After Friday prayers you can do sunnah prayers, this is based on the hadith below:
The Messenger of Allah said: When all of you have finished the Friday shalat, then pray four rak'ahs. Amr added to his narration from the way of Ibn Idris, that Suhail said, "If you are in a hurry because of something, then pray 2 rak'ahs in the mosque & 2 rak'ahs when you are going home. (Hadith History of Muslim & Tirmidhi).
